A Tour of Gardens by the Bay in Singapore: Part 3 – Flower Dome

Spectacular and innovative, Flower Dome is the largest glass greenhouse in the world as listed in the 2015 Guinness World Records. Replicating the cool and dry mediterranean climate, it showcases exotic plants from five continents, displayed in nine different gardens. The plants are complemented by changing displays in the Flower Field to reflect different seasons and festivals. 3,332 glass panels of 42 different shapes and sizes were needed to cover the whole 16,000m2 surface area of the dome. The Sunflower Surprise floral display creatively reinterprets the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz as a profusion of sunflowers. More than 10,000 sunflowers of various shapes and sizes are displayed along with statues of Scarecrow, Tin Man, Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion. You can find unusual sunflower varieties such as the fluffy Teddy Bear and the enormous Uniflorus Giganteus.
