Cedars Park – How James I got honey at Theobalds Palace.

Hi, we’re in Cedars Park, on the Western wall of the old palace wall. It’s Tudor bricks, and round here you’ll see quite a strange-looking little niche in the wall, and it’s called a bee bole. What a bee bole means, if you look at this photograph, they used to put either mud or, they called it a straw skep, human-made but inside the bees during the summer would make honey. In the winter, they’d cut it open and it would be full of honey, and this is quite a rare example that’s been left in this park.
